Morphological attributes, petro chemistry and origin of quartzite units in Ekiti, South-Western Nigeria

This study presents lithologic and petrogenetic investigation of bedded quartzite from Okemesi massive quartzites Ado-Ekiti in southwestern Nigeria. is extensive, thickly steeply dipping while hummocky, ferruginous, fractured, non-bedded. Analytical results reveal average SiO2 (94.74 %) (93.88%). Similarly, Rb/Sr are 0.74 1.22 Sr/Ba 0.89 0.69, respectively. These parameters portray them as supracrustal rocks continental origin. Implying Ekiti non-schistose pelitic metasediments. Na2O/Al2O3 versus K2O/Al2O3 diagram revealed the units sedimentary origin compositionally similar to Scottish metapelite Igarra quartz mica-schist. Chemical Index Alteration (CIA) (88 (91 which relatively high signifies intense chemical weathering their source rocks. compositional variability (ICV) (0.83) (0.74) indicate immature pelite.
